Community Gospel Music ConcertsOne of the feature ministries of Grace Christian Church to the LeRoy community over the past few years been to present Christian music concerts, mostly gospel quartets (tenor, tenor, baritone, bass). For all of our concerts we have received a free-will "love" offering but there has not been any admission charge. Refreshments were served following each event to provide a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get to know the performers better and share their Christian experiences. It has also been a great time for fellowship with neighbors and friends who attend different congregations.
This group of talented and devoted singers is one of the most popular gospel quartets in all of the upper Midwest. Already they had sung twice this year in nearby northern Iowa communities and Grace Christian was delighted to host them one more time in this area. The audience was very much involved in listening to their inspiring message and superb musicianship. One of the visitors in the audience was from the Twin Cities and this was his return to the church of his childhood. He was invited to tell the rest of the folks about that and how he very much wanted to revisit the very room where he originally gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ, a decision he said he had many times revisited and was still happy he made that choice a lot of years before. His testimony was an inspiring addition to the evening's music. 2009 Events Bob Fallt, tenor, John Backstorm, lead, Dester Kile, baritone, and Dale Tornell, bass sang a number of songs in the southern gospel style along with other types of music all proclaimed their love of Jesus Christ. These gentlemen are from the Twin Cities and are very busy. All retirees, this activity keeps them young, happy and very involved in ministry for our Lord. These men from Council Bluffs IA area sang on Saturday evening in July as part of LeRoy's 'Summer Fest' annual celebration. They presented a full slate of songs, many of them from the well-known 'Southern Gospel' tradition as well as a nice selection of songs in other styles. All of the music was focused on the Biblical truth that proclaims Jesus Christ as Lord of all. The Hunts & McSpaddens gave a fine soprano, alto, tenor, bass rendering of many hymns and songs that Christians have sung for years and encouraged the audience to sing along, too. These four (the women are sisters) have been performing concerts for 40 years all over the US and beyond. Bill Miller Piano Concert
The first event of 2009 was in March with Bill Miller, a marvelous pianist. He mixed and matched from memory over 50 well-known hymns interspersed with comments on some of the history of Christian music. He also marvelously performed several very technical arrangements. Bill resides in Norfolk NE. Although he is now retired from over 40 years as professor of Bible and Music at Nebraska Christian College he continues to be in demand to give concerts all over the country. |
